Madison, Wisconsin, takes a great deal of pride in its lakes. Downtown is built on a narrow stretch of land between to large lakes. This print is based on the view on downtown Madison from Lake Monona, looking over the Monona Terrace convention center (designed by Frank Lloyd Wright) at the dome of the State Capitol. The entire piece was constructed in reverse by hand from individual metal type ornaments, printed in a grey and blue split fountain, and then the whole forme was painstakingly reversed piece by piece to print the mirror image reflection in the water.
Printed in the letterpress studio at the Penland School of Crafts near Spruce Pine, NC.
